Analogue has released firmware version 1.5.0 for the Analogue 3D console. The update adds internal graphical upscaling and instant memory loading. The software is available to download directly from Analogue's support page.

Released in late 2025 for $269.99, the Analogue 3D is a hardware-level recreation of the Nintendo 64. Founded in 2011, Analogue built its reputation on premium FPGA clones like the Super Nt and Analogue Pocket. The N64 was considered their most ambitious project due to the sheer complexity of the original silicon. It uses an Intel Cyclone 10 GX FPGA chip to replicate the original console's logic rather than relying on software emulation. This approach bypasses the input lag and visual inaccuracies that usually plague N64 emulation on standard PCs.

Twice the horizontal pixels

The main draw of version 1.5.0 is a new internal upscaling pipeline. The system now doubles the horizontal resolution of 3D graphics directly within its virtual Reality Coprocessor and Video Interface. The N64's original anti-aliasing was aggressive enough to make everything look like it was coated in petroleum jelly. This new upscaling cleans up those blurry polygonal models without touching 2D sprites or user interface elements.

The process happens at the hardware level and has zero impact on timing authenticity or game performance. The upscaling works alongside all of the Analogue Original Display Modes. If you take screenshots using the system's Gallery feature, those captures will now pull from the new high-resolution pipeline. Users can activate this by navigating to the Advanced menu and toggling Horizontal Upscaling.

Quality of life improvements are also a major focus here. Loading a saved Memory state is now instant. A new startup action lets the console boot directly into your most recent Memory when an original cartridge is inserted. The operating system also defaults to new Integer+ scaling settings optimized for the entire N64 library. Your existing custom configurations will remain untouched.

The jailbreak situation

The annoying part is the rooted firmware version is never updated. While the official firmware keeps getting these excellent visual and quality-of-life upgrades, the custom firmware scene for loading ROMs from an SD card always seems stuck a few versions behind. It makes choosing between official cartridge support and backup convenience a frustrating compromise.

Core timing and controller fixes

Under the hood, the update fully implements core RSP scalar and vector interlock behavior. It also implements RSP branch and dual instruction behavior. This fixes jitter in certain games by expanding progressive video support. The operating system visual polish extends to the in-game menu, which now has dynamic opacity. Analogue also updated the library information and default settings for several specific games.

Controller compatibility got some attention as well. 8BitDo is a frequent Analogue collaborator and produces the official wireless controller modkits for the system. Version 1.5.0 resolves issues with simultaneous C-button presses and rumble functionality on the 8BitDo N64 Modkit. You just need to make sure the controller itself is updated to version 1.04 or later.
