Tengo Project is bringing back S.C.A.T. with Cybernetic Attack Final Mission
The 1990 NES side-scrolling shooter is getting a modern 16-bit style revival, and a playable demo is heading to Tokyo Game Show 2026.
Tengo Project has announced Cybernetic Attack Final Mission, a modernized 16-bit style revival of the 1990 NES side-scrolling shooter Final Mission, with a playable demo scheduled for Tokyo Game Show 2026.
The original game debuted on the Nintendo Famicom in Japan before releasing internationally under the much more memorable title S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team in North America (and Action in New York in PAL regions). It was a fast-paced flying shooter where cybernetically enhanced soldiers used jetpacks and orbiting satellite pods to repel an alien invasion. Now, the veteran developers at Winning Entertainment Group are giving it a complete visual and mechanical overhaul.

The teaser trailer shows off high-octane 2D run-and-gun gameplay with heavily detailed pixel art that looks like a late-era Super Nintendo or Sega Saturn release.
Four characters and co-op
The new version expands the original roster significantly. Instead of just the two original protagonists, Cybernetic Attack Final Mission includes four distinct playable characters: Frederic, Siren, Titan, and Queenbee. The game supports one to two players in local cooperative mode.
I think the addition of four different characters will completely change the dynamic of the co-op experience. The original game relied heavily on managing your satellite pods to block bullets and deal damage in multiple directions. Having four unique character types implies we will see specialized weapon loadouts and movement abilities that weren't possible on the NES hardware.
The official site confirms the game is a side-view scrolling shooter, but target platforms, pricing, and a final release date are currently listed as undecided. It will support multiple languages at launch, including English, Japanese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Korean, and Chinese.
The Tengo Project track record
Tengo Project is a boutique development team operating within Winning Entertainment Group (the company formerly known as NatsumeAtari). The team consists of original Natsume developers, including Shunichi Taniguchi and Toshiyasu Miyabe, who actually worked on these late-80s and 90s action games the first time around.
This is their fifth major retro revitalization project. They previously rebuilt Wild Guns Reloaded in 2016, The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors in 2019, and Pocky & Rocky Reshrined in 2022. Most recently, they released Shadow of the Ninja - Reborn in August 2024. Their approach is incredibly consistent. They do not use emulation or simple upscaling. They rebuild the games from scratch with lavish hand-crafted pixel art, widescreen support, arranged soundtracks, and expanded movesets that make the games feel the way you remember them rather than how they actually played.
Playable at Makuhari Messe
Fans will not have to wait long to see how it plays. A playable demo build will make its public debut at Tokyo Game Show 2026. The event runs from September 17 to September 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.
Tengo Project will set up in the Indie Game area in Hall 9 at booth 09-C01. Given their history of releasing these revivals on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and PC, it is highly likely we will see a multiplatform release once the final details are locked in.
