7th Domain: Tree of Chaos is getting a physical PS5 release

Red Art Games has opened pre-orders for a physical PlayStation 5 edition of 7th Domain: Tree of Chaos. The pixel-art action RPG, developed by Lightimpact and brought to consoles by Happy Player, is available to reserve now ahead of a planned June 26 release.

The game is a blend of Metroidvania exploration and roguelike progression. Players navigate a tarot-based map system across 70 different interconnected areas. You will fight enemies, die frequently, and collect an absurd amount of loot to try again.

Happy Player stepped in to handle the console versions after Lightimpact finished the initial PC release. They brought the game to modern platforms with a few technical tweaks to keep the action running smoothly on a television screen.

The combat system leans hard into the action side of the RPG equation. Encounters are fast and intense, requiring quick reflexes to survive overwhelming odds.

The math doesn't math

You will spend a lot of your playtime staring at stat screens. The equipment UI is packed with numbers, tracking everything from physical attack and critical damage to elemental affinities and raw luck. Every piece of gear drops with randomized stats. This turns the inventory management into a game of its own.

There are 152 talents and 34 skills available to unlock. Combined with the randomized weapon drops and varying affix combinations, the build possibilities are massive. It is the kind of system that keeps you staring at a character build screen at 2am, trying to calculate if a two percent bump in poison damage is worth losing a dodge roll frame.

Big swords and bigger monkeys

Players have access to several weapon types, including fast-striking daggers, ranged bows, and heavy two-handed greatswords. Combat is heavily effects-driven. The player character uses lightning-based magic attacks to clear out a group of smaller enemies. The attacks fill the screen with bright blue flashes.

Boss encounters take up the rest of the spotlight. One battle pits the player against a massive volcanic ape. This demonstrates the scale of these fights and the visual feedback of the combat system. The pixel art is beautiful. It gives the dark fantasy setting a distinct visual identity even when the screen is completely covered in floating damage numbers. The animations remain fluid despite the visual clutter.

Multiplatform history

Red Art Games is handling the PlayStation 5 physical run, but the game is not exclusive to Sony's hardware. 7th Domain originally launched on PC in late 2023. It eventually made its way to the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles. The console ports also have a completely rewritten English localization. This replaces the rougher translation from the original PC launch.

The physical edition is priced at 30 euros (roughly $32) through the official Red Art Games store. This is a standard release. You get the disc and the plastic case without any extra art books or soundtrack CDs. It skips the usual extras like enamel pins or cloth maps that inevitably end up in a drawer anyway. The publisher expects copies to begin shipping in late June 2026. With the sheer volume of digital-only indie games released every week, it is nice to see a smaller action RPG still get a proper disc.
