7 games Nintendo just announced for the Switch 2 and Switch
Metroid Ravenous leads a packed Nintendo Direct that also revealed a new 3D Kirby game and major third-party RPGs.
Nintendo wrapped up its September broadcast with a heavy focus on the Switch 2. The official Nintendo Direct recap confirmed release windows for several major first-party titles, as previously reported, alongside a handful of third-party surprises.
Here are the seven announcements from the showcase.
1. Metroid Ravenous
Nintendo closed the show with a direct successor to 2021's Metroid Dread. Metroid Ravenous launches on January 28, 2027, for the Switch 2. The pricing structure is unusual. The digital version is $59.99, but if you want a physical copy, it's $69.99. A special edition will also be available for $119.99.
I want to see how the development team iterates on the movement mechanics from Dread, which modernized the 2D formula after a 19-year gap following Metroid Fusion. Samus looks faster here. The environments appear much larger, taking advantage of the new hardware to render massive biomes without loading screens. Dread proved people still want traditional side-scrolling Metroid. Ravenous seems built to test exactly how far that format can stretch on a more powerful console.
2. Kirby and the World Beyond
HAL Laboratory isn't done with 3D. Scheduled for Spring 2027, this follow-up to Kirby and the Forgotten Land incorporates open-world elements. The previous game sold over 7.5 million copies by moving the pink puffball out of a strict 2D plane. This new entry seems to drop the linear stages entirely.
3. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity gets a new edition
A refreshed version of the Zelda spin-off is on the way. Age of Calamity originally released on the Nintendo Switch, whereas the original 2014 Hyrule Warriors was a Wii U title. Nintendo didn't specify exactly what this new edition adds, but it will likely bundle the existing expansion pass content into one package.
4. Final Fantasy VII Revelation
Square Enix is bringing its massive RPG project to Nintendo hardware. The broadcast confirmed the game is in development, though the footage was brief. It's a major third-party get for the platform.
5. Monster Hunter Wilds
Capcom showed off more hunting action. The series has a long history on Nintendo portables, and Wilds looks to continue that tradition. The monster designs shown in the short clip are completely new.
6. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
Lara Croft is getting another adventure. The teaser focused heavily on underwater exploration and ancient ruins. I am curious if this is a ground-up Switch 2 project or a port of a multiplatform release.
7. A new edition of Pikmin 4
Rounding out the first-party updates is a new version of Pikmin 4. Like the Age of Calamity announcement, details are scarce. It will probably include quality-of-life updates and some new challenge stages.
