7 games hitting PlayStation this August, led by Marvel Tōkon

August is usually a quiet month for game releases. That isn't the case this year. PlayStation's monthly release roundup just dropped, and the schedule is completely packed. The first two weeks are surprisingly heavy, especially since we have everything from hardcore tactical shooters to massive anime fighters dropping within days of each other. Here are the seven notable titles launching in the first half of the month.

1. Beast of Reincarnation

Game Freak is taking a break from Pokémon to make a post-apocalyptic action RPG. It launched today, and it blends Sekiro combat mechanics with a companion dog. I'm curious to see how a studio known for turn-based monster catching handles a fast-paced action game.

2. Big Walk

House House finally released their follow-up to Untitled Goose Game today. It's a cooperative puzzle adventure about walking around and communicating with your friends. It's also a day-one release on PlayStation Plus, which feels like the perfect way to build an instant player base.

3. MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Arc System Works is bringing their 4v4 tag-team fighter to PS5 on August 6. We previously reported on the X-Men roster additions, and the anime-styled presentation looks fantastic. Handing the Marvel license to the Guilty Gear Strive developers is the smartest decision Sony has made all year.

4. Pro Jank Footy

This one arrives on August 12. The title alone tells you exactly what to expect. Sometimes you don't want a hyper-realistic simulation. You just want to kick a ball around with terrible physics.

5. Hell Let Loose: Vietnam

Expression Games is taking their 50v50 tactical shooter formula to the Vietnam War on August 13. The original game is notoriously unforgiving. I expect this spin-off to be just as brutal, if not worse, given the dense jungle environments.

6. Duskfade

Also dropping on August 13 is Duskfade. The PlayStation roundup keeps the details light on this indie project. It is always nice when a smaller title manages to squeeze into a packed release calendar alongside the heavy hitters.

7. Madden NFL 27

EA Tiburon returns with their annual football simulation on August 13. The franchise has been running since 1988, and it sells millions of copies every single year. It is unlikely this entry will reinvent the wheel, but it'll definitely dominate the sales charts.

That covers the first two weeks of the month. You'll probably need to clear some hard drive space before the fall release window actually starts.
