The weekly Xbox release schedule usually has a lot of padding. Next week is an exception. Between September 7 and September 11, the platform gets a mix of long-awaited console ports, retro localizations, and the annual hockey refresh. Xbox Game Pass outlined the full list this afternoon. Here are the four most interesting arrivals.

EA Sports NHL 27

Electronic Arts releases its hockey simulation on September 11. The big push this year is authentic arena atmospheres. The developers overhauled the presentation for all 32 NHL arenas to match their real-world counterparts. That includes specific goal songs and custom pregame introductions. I'm curious to see if the physics engine updates actually change the pace of play, or if they just add new animations to the existing framework.

Mewgenics

Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel are finally releasing their tactical cat-breeding roguelike on September 8. Mewgenics already released on PC (Windows) on February 10, 2026; the September 8 release is for its console launch (including Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2). You breed cats, mutate their genetics, and send them into grid-based tactical combat. I want to see how well the dense menu management translates to a standard controller.

The Royal Writ

Yogscast Games is publishing this deck-building tactical lane battler on September 10. The Royal Writ previously launched on PC (Steam) on August 7, 2025; the September 10 release marks its debut on Xbox consoles and Xbox Game Pass. The hook here is permanent card destruction. When you sacrifice a card on the battlefield, it's gone from your deck forever. It forces you to treat your deck as a finite resource rather than a recurring engine.

Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute

Clear River Games is bringing Omiya Soft's 1997 Sega Saturn digital board game to modern hardware. The original Culdcept stayed exclusive to Japan for nearly 30 years. It blends Monopoly-style board movement with collectible card game mechanics. You claim tiles, summon monsters to defend them, and force opponents to pay tolls when they land on your territory. Getting an official English localization for a Saturn game in 2026 is a welcome surprise.

The full lineup also includes Halloween: The Game and Train Sim World 7. Game Pass subscribers get The Royal Writ on day one, which makes it an easy download if you like deckbuilders.
