Sunny Lab's management RPG The Witch's Bakery is launching on August 20, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming Switch 2. The game mixes pastry baking and magical therapy in modern-day Paris.

Sunny Lab describes the project as a cross between Kiki's Delivery Service and Persona 5. You play as Lunne, a young witch who moves to the city to open her own shop. The core gameplay loop divides your daily schedule into three distinct phases. During the day, you run the bakery. This involves serving customers, managing your staff of friends, and completing rhythm-based baking mini-games.

Running a successful business requires balancing your budget and keeping the display cases stocked. As the story progresses, Lunne earns money and local fame. Upgrading the shop attracts more customers. A larger customer base provides the resources needed to expand your menu. At night, Lunne closes the shop to rest, decorate the bakery, and upgrade her magical abilities in her atelier. The middle phase of the day is where the RPG elements take over.

Emotional baggage

When the evening rolls around, Lunne explores different districts of Paris to build relationships and uncover the city's secrets. Some characters have their emotions locked away so tightly that standard dialogue will not fix things. This is where the Persona 5 influence becomes obvious.

Lunne can enter a "Heart Palace" to navigate a person's inner struggles.

These psychological segments play out as grid-based puzzle mini-games. You must guide a personified emotion back to the host's heart. Solving the puzzle reveals the specific ingredient needed to bake a pastry that will cure their mental block. It is a very literal interpretation of comfort food.

The game earned a Teen rating from the ESRB for fantasy violence, suggestive themes, and language. This suggests the psychological elements might get a bit heavier than the bright pastel art style implies. The Heart Palaces deal directly with trauma and inner demons. This brings some real stakes to the pastry business.

Parisian nights

The game leans heavily into its animated aesthetic. Publisher Silver Lining Interactive brought in harpist Cécile Corbel to compose the main theme. Corbel previously worked on the soundtrack for Studio Ghibli's The Secret World of Arrietty. Her music fits the surreal visual style of the world. A futuristic train soars past the Eiffel Tower under a massive moon.

Sunny Lab is a French indie studio founded by Charlotte Gailledreau and Hugo Sahuquet. They have spent the last few years building out this stylized version of their capital city. The map includes famous districts like Montmartre alongside smaller promenades that only locals usually visit. You can spend your free time buying books to learn new recipes or engaging in side activities to learn new skills.

Earlier this month, Sunny Lab hosted an art competition for Pride Month. They asked the community to draw fanart of Lunne and her romantic interest, Estelle. The game's version of the Louvre will display the winning artwork when the title launches. It is a neat way to incorporate the community into the final product.

Physical editions are also up for preorder through Silver Lining's direct store. The boxed copies include an official digital cookbook. You can try to bake the French pastries in real life, though you will have to provide your own magic.
