Stick it to the Stickman hits 1.0 and exits Early Access on Steam

Free Lives and Devolver Digital have officially launched version 1.0 of Stick it to the Stickman on Steam, ending the game's Early Access run. The physics-based corporate brawler is now feature-complete. This update adds a final conclusion to the story campaign alongside several new game modes.

Stick it to the Stickman is a rogue-lite beat 'em up where players fight their way up the corporate ladder. The premise targets office culture with the same blunt force Free Lives applied to action movies in Broforce. Combat relies heavily on ragdoll physics and an escalating arsenal of office supplies, firearms, and martial arts moves. You'll clear rooms of hostile coworkers and middle management to reach the top. It's violent, loud, and incredibly fast.

Hostile takeover complete

The 1.0 release adds the Billionaire Bunker and Neurolink game modes to the rotation. Players also get access to new character archetypes and face new bosses on their way to defeating the company founder. The core loop remains the same. You clear a floor, pick a new attack or passive upgrade, and try not to get overwhelmed by the sheer number of enemies on screen.

The combat shifts between side-scrolling platforming and top-down arena battles. Upgrades stack during a run. It doesn't take long for a basic punch to turn into a screen-clearing combination of explosions and flying bodies. The launch trailer shows off a massive upgrade menu featuring everything from standard crossbows to sniper rifles. You assemble a combat portfolio as you climb the building, unlocking new workers and abilities to increase shareholder value.

There is a lot of chaotic energy on display. The top-down sections in particular flood the screen with neon projectiles and crowds of enemy stickmen. It looks overwhelming in the best way possible.

Five years in the office

Free Lives (the studio behind Broforce and Anger Foot) first prototyped the game in early 2021. It was formally announced in September 2022 and spent a year in Steam Early Access starting in August 2025.

According to the developer's launch post, the original plan was to build a simple game where pressing one button attacked a coworker. That simple idea somehow ballooned into a five-year production cycle. It's exactly the kind of unchecked scope creep that makes game development such a predictable joy.

The team eventually had to cut some planned modes to get the 1.0 version out the door. A Marketing Department area, a Robot Takeover of Fulfillment, and Employee Evaluation Trials didn't make the cut. Free Lives noted that finishing everything they originally planned would have taken at least another year, and they were ready to conclude the project. They've been working on this single joke for over two thousand days.

The game is fully verified for the Steam Deck. The short, run-based structure of a rogue-lite usually translates well to handhelds, and the simple visual style shouldn't stress the hardware.

Stick it to the Stickman is available now on Steam. The publisher is Devolver Digital, and you can find more information on their official website.
