Ratchet & Clank's mobile hero shooter is taking pre-registrations
Oh BiBi and Insomniac Games are gearing up for the global launch of Ranger Rumble. You can sign up now on iOS and Android to unlock early rewards.
Global pre-registrations for Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble are now open on iOS and Android. The mobile hero shooter, developed by Oh BiBi alongside PlayStation Studios and Insomniac Games, is gearing up for a worldwide release after several months of regional soft launches.
I love Ratchet & Clank. Hopefully this isn't overrun with micro transactions, considering the genre and the platform.
Sony originally announced the game in November 2025. Since then, players in Canada, France, the Nordics, and Asia have been testing the servers and balance. Now, according to the PlayStation Blog, the testing phase is wrapping up. The developers have not locked in a hard launch day yet. The App Store listing currently shows an expected release date of October 5, 2026.
12 playable characters at launch
The premise leans heavily on the franchise's existing humor. Captain Qwark has set up a combat simulation to recruit new Galactic Rangers. Players drop into real-time PvP arena battles using 12 different heroes. The roster includes familiar faces and brand-new Lombaxes designed with direct input from Insomniac.
Oh BiBi is handling the actual development. The Paris-based studio previously built FRAG Pro Shooter, a highly successful mobile hero shooter with a very similar structural DNA. They have a solid track record with colorful, fast-paced multiplayer games. Bringing them in to handle a Ratchet & Clank adaptation makes sense on paper. The core of the franchise has always been chaotic, upgradeable weapons, and an arena shooter is a natural fit for that arsenal.

The game features three main multiplayer modes at launch: Bolt Rush, Total Rumble, and Blast Ball. Mixing PvE elements into the PvP matches is intended to add some variety to the standard arena combat loop.
The Clank Suit skin for Widget
To push early sign-ups, Sony is running a community rewards campaign. Hitting global pre-registration milestones will unlock in-game currencies like Qredits, Reebos, and Raritanium. The headline reward is an exclusive Clank Suit skin for Widget, one of the new characters introduced specifically for this spin-off.
Insomniac Games operated as an independent studio for 25 years before Sony officially acquired them in 2019. They are known for fluid traversal and creative weaponry. Oh BiBi is doing the heavy lifting here. Insomniac's oversight is meant to ensure the spin-off still feels like a proper entry in the universe. The visual style aims to capture the Pixar-like fidelity seen in 2021's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, scaled down for mobile hardware.
This is the first major mobile push for the franchise since 2013's Before the Nexus, an endless runner designed as a companion app for the PlayStation 3 era. PlayStation Studios has been steadily moving its big properties onto phones as part of a broader corporate strategy. We will see how the final monetization model shakes out when the servers open to everyone this fall.
