Double Dragon Gaiden gets four new fighters in free DLC

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons has released a major free DLC update titled 'Bimmy & Friends.' The update introduces four new playable characters: Bimmy Lee, Jackson, Jim Mackey, and Armored Okada. This latest content drop is available now for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The Double Dragon series has a long and storied history, dating back to its arcade debut in 1987. Created by Technōs Japan, the original game is credited with popularizing the beat 'em up genre, setting conventions that many subsequent titles would follow. The series centers on the martial artist brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee as they battle street gangs and other adversaries. Over the years, the franchise has seen numerous sequels, spin-offs, and ports across various platforms, with some entries receiving more critical acclaim than others. Despite some inconsistencies in quality across its many iterations, Double Dragon remains a foundational series in gaming history, influencing countless other beat 'em up titles.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, developed by Secret Base and published by Modus Games, launched on July 27, 2023, for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. This latest entry offers a fresh take on the classic formula with roguelite elements, dynamic mission selection, and tag-team combat. The game has already received free DLC updates in the past, such as 'Sacred Reunion' which added new characters and game modes. The 'Bimmy & Friends' update marks the largest character addition to date for the game.

The 'Bimmy & Friends' DLC introduces a quartet of new characters, each with their own distinct fighting styles and personalities:

• Bimmy Lee: A character shrouded in legend, said to master a secret Sōsetsuken form.
• Jackson: A heavyweight boxer known for his powerful jabs and uppercuts, who left the ring for the thrill of street combat.
• Jim Mackey: The younger brother of M.G. Willy, who seeks to forge his own path with a signature shotgun.
• Armored Okada: Lady Okada, who must don sacred clan armor to earn respect from her elders.

These new fighters join an already robust roster, allowing players to experiment with even more tag-team combinations and strategies.
