Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 streams on Netflix with a 2077 update ahead

All ten episodes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 are streaming on Netflix, and CD Projekt Red has announced a companion Update 2.5 patch for Cyberpunk 2077 arriving on October 22. First revealed in July 2025, the standalone ten-episode collaboration between the Polish studio and Japanese animation house Studio Trigger returns to Night City four years after the 2022 original.

I loved the first season. The artwork and music were fantastic, the story was pretty engaging, and I'm excited to check out season two now that the full run is out. The simultaneous game patch is a welcome surprise.

Four new perspectives on Night City

Instead of continuing the story of original protagonist David Martinez, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 follows an ensemble cast across four intersecting storylines. As shown in the official trailer, the plot tracks a de-chromed veteran mercenary named Weak Kingsley (voiced by Clancy Brown in English and Kentaro Tone in Japanese), teenage filmmaker Roman Carax (Valeria Rodriguez and Momoka Terasawa), a chrome-obsessed delinquent named Talia Yang (Kimoy Lee and Akari Kito), and a Snake Nation netrunner.

Creative duties shifted for this second outing. Long-time Studio Trigger key animator and unit director Kai Ikarashi, whose previous credits include SSSS.Gridman, Promare, and Kill la Kill, takes over the director's chair from Trigger co-founder Hiroyuki Imaishi. Kanno Ichigo handles lead character design, while Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, story writer, and producer alongside returning writer Masahiko Otsuka.

The first season set a high bar when it premiered in September 2022. It logged nearly 15 million viewing hours during its opening week and won Anime of the Year at the 7th Crunchyroll Anime Awards in March 2023. Stepping away from David's finished arc makes sense, and I'm curious to see how Ikarashi balances four separate leads across just ten episodes without the pacing feeling rushed.

Dual-wielding in Update 2.5

To tie into the premiere, the free Edgerunners 2 Update (Update 2.5) for Cyberpunk 2077 launches on Thursday, October 22. It's impressive that a six-year-old RPG is still pulling in major feature patches, though CD Projekt Red clearly remembers how much the first anime boosted player counts back in 2022.

The patch adds items inspired by the new episodes alongside broader gameplay additions, including cyberware customization and a dual-wielding playstyle. CD Projekt Red is hosting a REDstreams broadcast on Wednesday, October 21 at 5 PM CEST on Twitch, YouTube, and Steam to show off the additions before publishing the full patch notes later that day.
