PixelHeroForge's upcoming turn-based strategy game Cyber Tile is officially coming to GOG. The digital storefront released a new announcement trailer today that shows off the game's blend of grid-based tactical combat and roguelike deckbuilding. The game is also planned for a Steam release.

The cyberpunk aesthetic is everywhere right now, but Cyber Tile narrows its focus to a lone swordsman navigating a 2D grid. The main hook is skill theft. Instead of just looting weapons or buying generic stat upgrades, you learn and copy the abilities of the enemies you defeat. You then use those copied skills to build out your deck for the rest of the run.

The art style leans heavily into high-contrast pixel art. Neon pinks and blues cut through dark industrial backgrounds. The combat mixes strategy with roguelike action, backed up by fast-paced attack animations and immediate visual feedback. Potions also play a role in survival. They offer quick bursts of healing or buffs when the grid gets too crowded.

Grid combat and skill drafting

The progression loop relies on constant choices. Between encounters, players select different perks and upgrades to customize their run. After battles, you might have to choose between unleashing a magical projectile or striking the tile directly in front of you.

Combat plays out in turn-based encounters on a flat grid. You need careful positioning to avoid taking hits and maximize your own damage output. It looks like a mix of spatial puzzle-solving and traditional deck management. Games like Into the Breach and Shogun Showdown have popularized this specific subgenre. In these games, timing your moves and understanding enemy attack patterns is just as important as the cards you hold.

Every action happens on a single screen. You can see exactly where enemies plan to attack. This gives you a chance to step out of the way or set up a counterattack. The challenge comes from managing multiple threats at once while your available skills cycle through your deck. If you miscalculate an enemy's movement range, you will take damage that is hard to recover from.

Pushing the run

The run-based structure means you keep pushing through randomized enemies until you hit major roadblocks. Boss fights cap off these sections. The Obsidian Sentinel, for example, takes up a large portion of the combat grid and forces the player to navigate around its massive attack zones.

Because the maps and enemy layouts are randomized, you cannot rely on memorization. You have to adapt your strategy based on which skills drop and which enemies spawn. Certain map themes synergize with specific enemy types to create unique hazards. If you die, you lose your current deck and start over from the beginning. The game does promise some form of continual improvement to make subsequent runs easier, likely through permanent unlocks or meta-progression.

Cyber Tile does not have a firm release date yet. It is currently listed as "coming soon" on both GOG and Steam. PixelHeroForge is handling both development and publishing duties for the project. If you want to test the mechanics yourself, the developer has a playable demo available on Steam right now that lets you try out the first few areas.
