Crystal of Atlan brings Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. to PlayStation
The free-to-play magicpunk action RPG adds Tachikoma mounts, a chibi Motoko Kusanagi pet, and Section 9 combat modes on October 28 alongside a level 80 cap increase.
Nuverse and Skystone Games are launching the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex crossover event for Crystal of Atlan on October 28 across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, iOS, and Android. First teased in community updates back in mid-2026, the collaboration brings Public Security Section 9 into the game's magicpunk setting with themed mounts, companion pets, and four limited-time activity modes.
Ghost in the Shell is my favorite series, so any collaboration with it will get my attention. Putting cyberpunk counter-terrorist operatives into a floating fantasy continent of magic and machinery is a bit of a tonal collision, though Crystal of Atlan has been running this exact playbook since it launched in May 2025. The free-to-play MMO action RPG, developed by VI-Games under Nuverse and later brought to Steam in October 2025, has already cycled through crossovers with One-Punch Man, NieR: Automata, Digimon Adventure, and The King of Fighters '98.
Four paint jobs for a thinking tank
The centerpiece of the PlayStation launch footage is the Tachikoma mount. Players can ride Section 9's spider-like thinking tanks across the game's hubs and training grounds, and the vehicle comes in standard blue, yellow, pink, and heavy missile-pod variants.

Major Motoko Kusanagi joins the roster too, though not as a playable class or full-scale boss NPC like Mai Shiranui was during August's SNK event. Instead, the Major arrives as a chibi companion pet that floats beside the player and deploys a purple holographic cybernetic barrier during combat. It's a slightly goofy treatment for one of anime's most stoic philosophical leads, and I'm not entirely sold on shrinking Kusanagi down into a mascot, even if the barrier animation looks clean.

There's also a "Ghost Afterimage" footprint cosmetic that leaves a trail of green digital code behind your character as you sprint. It reads a little more like The Matrix than Production I.G.'s television series, but it fits the cybernetic theme well enough.

Section 9 modes and the level 80 cap
Beyond the cosmetics, the update introduces four event activities: Simulated Warzone, Memory Dive, Tactical Protocol, and Mind Sync. Simulated Warzone serves as the main combat trial, letting players pilot a Tachikoma directly into tactical training grounds to test out Section 9's firepower.
Mind Sync handles the daily login track. Checking in yields combat supplies, Arcanite of Adore, a themed avatar frame, and the limited in-game title "Ghost in the Shell."
This crossover isn't arriving in a vacuum. The October 28 patch also raises the base game's adventure level cap to 80, adds a story chapter titled "Hymn of Redemption," introduces another tier of endgame gear, and kicks off the seasonal "Doradoween" Halloween event. I'm curious whether the Tachikoma piloting in Simulated Warzone actually uses the game's Z-axis aerial combat mechanics or just locks you to the floor with a turret, because a spider tank that can't jump would miss half the point of the machine.
